The origins of Tenuta Il Bosco at Zenevredo, in the Oltrepò Pavese zone, date back to the Middle Ages, when Benedictine monks restored life to the land here – following a long period of abandonment – by cultivating vines once again. Today, following years of investments the estate comprises 152 hectares of vineyards under family ownership. During this period of expansion, stress has been laid on the great wealth of noble indigenous varieties, such as the extraordinary Bonarda and Barbera, which attain exceptional levels of quality in this zone. But great attention has also been reserved for the Oltrepò’s star cultivar - Pinot Nero - which has expressed all of its class and personality here for over two hundred years. Tenuta Il Bosco is at Zenevredo, a small commune in the Province of Pavia, whose name, according to ancient documents, derives etymologically from the Latin “ginepretum”, because of the clumps of juniper bushes that once covered the hillsides. The different exposure of the vine-clad slopes – from which the crus Poggio Pelato, Conti Vallone, Bellaria, Poggioli, San Zeno and Meriggi take their names - allows for the cultivation of the various grape varieties in conditions that are most favourable for each one. The average age of the vines is 15 years old, but it is important to stress that our great attention to vineyard husbandry is aimed at producing perfectly healthy grapes and stable wines and at creating those particular conditions that have always allowed one to obtain wines of high quality.
