Tedeschi

The family boast of an almost 4-century long history in the wine business and has always believed in the richness of Valpolicella wine production. They interpreted it in a modern key and have adopted the most innovative production methods wich allow the production of powerful, elegant and typical wines that are rich in. The family’s work is primarily focused on the vineyards and the care of the vines. The careful attention that they devote to the vineyards implies the research for the most effective interaction between soil characteristics, microclimate, exposure to the sun, best varieties, and training system. Nothing is left to chance. Thanks to constant, strong commitment, the Tedeschis wines have become synonymous with terroir and Valpolicella all over the world. VINEYARDS La Fabriseria The vineyard was recently planted. It is situated in Pontare area, between the municipalities of Fumane and Sant’Ambrogio in Valpolicella. Located in a dominating position 450 m above sea level, the vineyard covers 7 hectares and overlooks the entire Valpolicella classica valley, the city of Verona and Lake Garda. The vine training system used is guyot with a planting density of 7,200 vines per hectare. The concept of “Fabriseria” was borrowed from popular Veronese tradition, At the beginning of the XX century the “Fabriseria” was a council belonging to the village Catholic Church, whose duty it was to resolve the problems of the community during the building of new Church. Grandfather Riccardo Tedeschi was also a Fabbricere/Councilor. It was the custom of the Councilor to bring the best wine one produced to the meetings to make a toast at the end of a work session. ..."We have adopted the name of this ancient concept and use it for two of our top quality wines: Amarone la Fabriseria and Valpolicella Classico Superiore la Fabriseria, both produced with grapes from this Vineyard". Monte Olmi Bought by Lorenzo Tedeschi in 1998, Monte Olmi is the name of a vineyard situated in Pedemonte di Valpolicella, in the municipality of San Pietro in Cariano, in the heart of Valpolicella classica. It covers a surface of 2.5 hectares and faces south-west. The vineyard is grown on terraces sustained by drystone walls (known as “marogne”) which were recently restored. Steep slopes ensure good drainage in case of heavy rain whereas the soil depth and the abundance of clay allow retention of water in dry conditions. The morainal soil is red clay and calcareous (30% of which 5% is active). The vine training system used is the typical pergola. The planting density is low, approx. 3,500 vines per hectare with a yield of 6,000 kg per hectare. Tenuta Manternigo Maternigo means “land of the mother”. The property in the Valpolicella DOC area was bought in 2006 and is located between the municipalities of Tregnago and Mezzane di Sotto. The estate was chosen on the basis of careful research carried out by a team of agronomists and geologists. The studies revealed that the soil was perfect for wine-growing and particularly suitable for Valpolicella varieties. The new property covers 84 hectares. It comprises an ancient building, probably a monastery, whose oldest part dates back to the 15th century. It is located on a hill and overlooks the whole property. In addition to the vineyards, the property includes 53 hectares of woodland and 2 hectares of olive groves where typical Veronese varieties are grown. The vineyards were planted starting from 2008 and cover an area of 31 hectares. They lie between 200 m and 450 m above sea level and face south-east and south-west. The specialists’ analysis showed that the soil is calcareous detritus in a loamy matrix. The planted varieties are typical for Valpolicella and are intended for the production of the red wines of the estate. The grapes for Maternigo, a Valpolicella Superiore single-vineyard wine, are sourced from a vineyard called Impervio because of its extremely steep terrain. Moreover, another vineyard has been identified and in the next years its grapes will be used for yet another single-vineyard wine.
